A wedding in Covid times

This wedding was long overdue! What was meant to be one of my first weddings of 2020, has turned into my first of 2021 and only my 3rd since Covid struck. It has been a tough time for the wedding industry and all those couples that have had to change their wedding plans. Thankfully we are beginning to feel a certain amount of optimism about the future.

Greg + Darryl were due to get married at the glorious Three Hills Barn – after changing their wedding day a couple of times the opted to stick to their amended date ( with smaller numbers) and have a massive post covid party at the barn. Why not rock a double wedding celebration in style!

INTRODUCING THE BRIDE, GROOM & their wonderful wedding at Lady Gilfords Carlisle

Darryl was getting ready at her family home. It was a strange feeling driving to Carlisle (my home of 12 years) knowing that I now live 300 miles away in Bristol. It was even stranger feeling to be photographing a wedding after what seemed like an eternity. I always get pre wedding nerves at the start of any wedding season but this was another level. As a wedding photographer you soon slip into the groove and that first stroke of the makeup brush on Darryl’s glorious smiling face I knew what was happening. I knew weddings were back!!!

It was a relatively chilled morning, that culminated in the most beautiful moment when Darryl walked into the room to four very emotional onlookers. A small community of neighbours graced the lawn to send their grandest wishes before the small journey to Lady Gilfords registry office in Carlisle. Where a nervous handsome groom, Greg obviously, was waiting.

There is something a bit sad and surreal about shooting a wedding in Covid times, during the ceremony with the guests all masked up, its hard to truly really capture the tears and laughter. It is sad but then also in itself a true memory of the time.

Then for some portrait wedding photographs around carlisle

The newlyweds walked hand in hand out of the room after a beautiful service, down the grand staircase and outside to the rapturous applause of their now unmasked entourage. Confetti flied, and silly faces aplenty. I suggested we drive to Carlisle to capture some wedding couple portraits. The sun beamed down on the cobbled streets. I know in a few months from now we shall be doing similar at Three Hills Barn so although it was their wedding day it was somewhat like a mini engagement shoot.

Congrats to Greg + Darryl on their incredible marriage and wedding day!! You FINALLY DID IT!! I cannot wait to do it all again with umpteen more cool faces and hopefully a few less face-masks. Love GJP! X
