Just over a week ago (17th January 2015) I had the please of photographing my first wedding of 2015.
One hour before the ceremony, I entered the lovely family home of Katie’s to capture the final moments before the wedding cars arrived to whisk here away to the towards the aisle! There was a lovely calm around the house – often the morning can be frantic – after a swift cup of coffee, I set to work capturing the small details – including the mother of the brides beautiful millinery from Bron-Ja of Wigton – whilst waiting for the dress reveal from the soon be Mrs Metcalfe. The beautiful bride entered as a fathers smile radiated the room. After a few minor tweaks and adjustments it was time for the swift 5 minute drive to Anvil Hall.
John was waiting in this majestic venue, so as the bride awaited her instructions, I nipped in to photographs a few of the rather – as always – anxious looking groom & best man. As the bag pipes inflated, John, along with all the fabulous guests, turned there heads to watch as the wedding entourage walked down the aisle. The ceremony itself was lovely, with the usual strike of the anvil & tying of the knot, it came that time to happily pronounce them as husband & wife.
As the guests lined up with confetti outside, I took the opportunity to photograph within the wonderful interiors of the hall, then i joined the rest as the doors opened, with a rapture of cheers, Mr & Mrs Metcalfe walked through a shower of colourful confetti! A few hugs, laughs & congratulations later, the guests headed toward the reception whilst I took the opportunity to have a little walk with the newlyweds. Then we joined the rest of the party at Smiths Hotel, Gretna Green.
The reception room was laid out beautifully in anticipation for the wave of people that momentarily congregated outside. John & Katie took their positions at the door, then everyone entered – congratulating en route- to find their place ready for the wedding breakfast.
Post meal were the speeches, and once again, it was a fantastic toast to a truly beautiful couple – full of plenty of laughs, tears, and jeers – It is definitely one of my favourite things to photograph. As the last of the champagne diminished, the party dispersed momentarily to freshen up for night ahead.
The evening function was just across the road. I set up the sparkler shoot near the blacksmiths shop, and captured a kiss of many more to come. The rest of the night is pretty easy to summarise – incredible first dance – full of incredible emotion – shapes thrown by the guests – alcohol – a roaring fire – and from what I hear, a ecstatic bride running wild with a microphone…and with that I would like to make my own personal toast…. to the bride & groom, as well as all the guests – who made my normally dull Saturday in January – an absolute winter delight. Such a fantastic occasion and a joy to photograph.
I hope you enjoy the photographs, the full gallery will be available to view soon via their personal wedding website.
Until then, enjoy the snippets below, and many thanks!
