So let us first remove the confused elephant from the room. For those that don’t know Nardia + Shaun are both maths teachers. Right now on to describing how epic they are! They are very epic! As a photographer the most important thing (in my eyes) to creating joyful wedding photographs, it to build a great connection with your couple. From the first interactions and further chats about their wedding photography at Clearwell Castle, it was obvious this was a wicked combination. You can always tell a person (or couple) by the people they surround themselves with, in this instance wild and fun. Which is exactly the vibe that the wedding ended up.
A little bit about their wedding at Clearwell Castle.
As Nardia and her bridesmaids got ready in the castle, Shaun was at the gatehouse with the chaps! Here I met Kora and her lovely welcoming snarls! Anna (the second photographer) arrived shortly before the guests made their way to the lawns and up to the pergola ready for the outdoor ceremony. On the grand staircase of Clearwell Castle, teacups were getting laid, as Nardia walked down with her dad on her way to the aisle! Meannwhile Shaun, nerves palpable waited patiently. After some lovely sentimental vows and reading or two the deed was done! Hey Newports you newly married legends!
The whole wedding party then walked towards Clearwell Castle’s entrance for a bubble “confetti” line . The classic wedding photography shot, levelled up! After that, pigs were thrown, golf balls putted, bean bags dunked in holes and drinks were comsumed. One or two may have fallen over too! Aromas of food guided the wedding guests into the dining room. In ran the newlywed duo to rapturous applause as napkins rotated like helicopter blades and paper aeroplanes meandered through the air. It was time for the wedding breakfast.
Was it the camera or the photographer that Kora didn’t like?
Obviously the camera and the sound of the shutter. As a dog lover myself, and self proclaimed Doctor Dolittle It can be the only explanation as to why I got such a frosty greeting. It was fun nevertheless, and made for great candid wedding photography content! So thanks Kora for showing your love to the wedding photographer
Smash the wedding cake and sing your first song – scrapping the normal traditions.
When talking about their wedding plans and the photography aspect, one thing that stood out was their wish to eliminate as much wedding tradition as possible. I say eliminate I think modify is better suited term. They had confetti, but with bubbles. There was a wedding cake, but it was smashed to pieces and sweets ejected from it. There was no first dance but a first song, and a zoo of animals entered the dancfloor in the night. So yeah, when thinking about your wedding and the wedding photography too, do as you please and not as others wish. It is your day after all. Also get married at Clearwell Castle, because it is ace, however don’t do what I say – see previous sentiment.
How do you capture those reportage wedding photography bits?
I always say to my wedding couples that the day will flow and I’ll follow the action. Therefore the moments you see are just because I am there at the right place right time. If you look and listen, as a photographer you are drawn to certain groups of people. The more interacting there is the easier it all becomes. It helps if you have a few mad folk sprinkled into your wedding.
