High Barn Wedding blog – Offbeat photography for the outdoorsy bride – quirky yet quaint.
Grant + Sophie married, then partied the night away at the intimate High Barn, Edenhall and my word what a day! High Barn is a wedding venue I had the pleasure of photographing a styled shoot at. It was a delight to head back in a wedding capacity to create quirky and unique wedding photographs for these two!
High Barn for those that don’t know is situated close to Penrith. It hosts 50 perfect panoramic views of the Lake district and 50% that of woodland. It really is the perfect wedding venue for an elopement. Whether you marry in the barn, a tipi, or take advantage of their outdoor ceremonies – you are in for a treat. The barn itself is an intimate and rustic place, and the surrounding areas offer a courtyard experience for family games and the open campfire is perfect for some evening jovial cheers. I loved the day and I love High Barn Weddings
INTRODUCING THE BRIDE, GROOM & The Edenhall Estate
Grant and Sophie headed to the lake district a few months prior to their wedding. We caught up over coffee at Armathwaite Hall before heading on a pre wedding shoot around Bassenthwaite Lake. It is always great meeting up before the wedding, and to create some photos away from the stresses a wedding day can bring. From that point I knew their wedding at high barn was going to be glorious to photograph.
It was the morning Sophie and her bridal party of wild doctors, whom she met in medical school, got ready and the fain smell of burnt toast permeated the air. Meanwhile, in the cosy bothy at High Barn, Grant was fixing up and looking sharp as the guests started to filter through. The ceremony was an outdoors one, on the grounds of High Barn with the panoramic views of the Eden valley. It is hard to argue a more romantic location for a wedding, and most definitely a glorious one to be able to take wedding photos at.
The guests, a mix of nationalities all sat as Sophie walked down the aisle looking glorious – Grant, tear in eye, feeling like the happiest guy alive. It was a glorious wedding ceremony which then led to a whole charade of fun and laughter!
LETS TALK ABOUT THAT wickedly fun WEDDING
Dogs flew around the grass, as kids followed suit. Ping pong balls were bounced as beer was simultaneously downed. A cake made of doughnuts was the figurehead before the blazing firepit was lit. A lady helicoptered wildly on the swing whilst another just joyfully swung under a caring watchful eye. All Wedding photography gold. The dad did a speech, and faked a limp. In a bizarre a beautiful moment that had everyone in hysterics. The party was lit! A glorious wedding dance and disco in the rustic brickwork of High Barn. But before that we had the portraits.
Offbeat Fun Wedding photography Portraits – with a chicken
Offbeat wedding photography portraits are vastly becoming my identity. When you have and adventurous bride and groom, who entertain your quirky ideas, then life as a photographer is easy. The best wedding photos are created out of madness. The reason I wanted to highlight this section, was due to the fact high barn and the Edenhall estate entertains some amazing animals. They have a resident deer who often pays a visit during a wedding portrait session, alas not this time. However the chickens were on form!
The chickens, guests, wedding venue, wedding suppliers were all on form! Emma Tebbay was a wedding organising wizardess, and the bride and groom were on point. A truly beautiful wedding at high barn, on the Edenhall Estate overlooking pure serenity.
Congrats to d’Evans’ on their incredible marriage and wedding day!! Love GJP! X
